There is no system of global trademark registration. Hence, applications are required to be filed separately for each jurisdiction, save in cases where some countries allow for one application through a union or a treaty such as I’m African Union (covers 16 member countries) and European Union (covers 27 member countries).   1. The trademark application for registration is filed at the Ministry of Economy
  2. Within 30 days from the day of submission application Ministry of Economy gives its decision
  3. If everything fine the Ministry of Economy approves your Trade Mark, it shall be announced in its bulletin and in two Arabic newspapers before the starting registration process on applicant expense.
  4. Any interested person can file an objection to the registration of the trademark by submitting a written objection to the Ministry of Economy within 30 days from the date of the last announcement. If anyone files an objection, the Ministry of Economy notifies the applicant with a copy of the objection to his application within 15 days from the receipt of such an objection.
  5. If no objection is raised from anyone then the registration is finalized. Ministry of Economy provides the Trademark certificate which containing details of:
    • trademark registration number;
    • date of application and registration;
    • trade name or the owner’s name, nationality, and place of residence
    • copy of the trademark; and
    • description of the products, goods, or services that come under the trademark.

The estimated timeframe for the registration of a trademark in the UAE is between 2 to 3 months. The actual timeframe will depend upon the facts of each application for registration.
